Most people will experience a headache at some point of their lives. Headaches are a common source of discomfort and pain with most not resulting from a serious health condition and treated conservativity with lifestyle changes.

There are 2 types of headaches:

  • Primary – not caused by injury or illness
  • Secondary – caused by underlying health condition

Primary headaches are most common and comprise of tension headaches, cluster headaches, and migraines. Although there are many factors that can cause these headaches, the following are of the most common:

  • Poor posture / ergonomics
  • Over activity of certain muscles of the head, neck, and shoulders
  • Dehydration
  • Eating certain foods
  • Lack of sleep
  • Stress
  • Eye strain

Tips for those suffering with Primary headaches:

  • Identify your headache triggers – try keeping a diary and note events/postures/ environment of when headaches occur
  • Staying active – 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise daily
  • Getting enough sleep
  • Maintaining good posture
  • Reduce caffeine and alcohol consumption
  • Ensure room/ environment is well ventilated
